How Much Does a Digital Marketer Cost? Rates in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, UK, US and Europe
The same digital marketer can cost ₦150,000 a month in Lagos, about $5,000 in New York, or more than €100 an hour in Berlin. That is not because one of them is a fraud. It is because rates follow local living costs, the market the work is aimed at, and experience. This guide puts the real ranges side by side, in naira, dollars and euros, so you can see what a fair price looks like wherever you hire.

Why the gaps are so big
Cost of living. A marketer in Abuja and one in Boston need very different incomes to live well. The clients they serve. A marketer who handles American ad budgets of $50,000 a month charges more than one who manages ₦30,000 a day. Skill. A person who can read ad data, test ideas and explain results is rarer than one who can post pictures. Scope. "Digital marketer" can mean anything from posting on Instagram to running a full growth plan. Always ask exactly what the price covers.
Should you hire abroad because it is cheaper?
Sometimes, but be honest about the trade-offs. A marketer in the Philippines may cost less than one in the UK, but if your customers are in Kano, someone who understands Hausa-speaking buyers, local holidays, and how Nigerians actually pay will usually get better results. Time zones, language and payment methods also matter. A cheaper rate for a marketer who does not understand your customer is not really cheaper.
A quick way to think about your budget
Many small businesses spend somewhere between five and ten percent of revenue on marketing. That is a rule of thumb and not a law, and young businesses often spend more to get started. Whatever you choose, remember that the ad budget is separate from the marketer's fee.
Mistakes to avoid
Comparing a freelancer's price with an agency's price as if they were the same thing. A team and a single person are different services.
Forgetting currency risk. If you pay in dollars, the naira cost can move between the agreement and the final payment. Ask which currency the price is fixed in.
Choosing only the lowest quote. The cheapest option often ends up being the one you replace.
Short glossary
Retainer: a fixed monthly fee. Day rate: the price for one working day, often the hourly rate times eight. PPC: pay-per-click advertising, where you pay when someone clicks your advert.
